Part IV (of IV) with the HIFIMAN EF499 Headphone Amplifier #headphoneamp

Headphone Amps can be tricky, because you don't always know what you're going to get as far as performance is concerned. However, when I tested the EF499 with the HE400se, Ananda, and Arya Stealth, I saw a noticeable improvement across the board in clarity, soundstage, and imaging. All of these items would probably be classified as affordable and novice-friendly. I think this important to point out because this type of headphone amplifier is perfect for someone who has just gotten into the audiophile game. It's not overly expensive, it's not overly complicate, and the sound-quality impact is immediately noticeable before and after plugging into it. The EF499 is going to provide you a more dynamic listening experience than without an amplifier. Additionally, I was very impressed with the weight and tangibility of this product. It comes in at about 7 lbs and feels like a substantial piece rather than something very plasticky without much heft. I think this is important on a piece like this as well. The only difficulty I had with this amplifier was plugging directly into a mobile device. It's possible if you connect through your router and Google Cast using a streaming service like Roon, but it takes a lot of effort to install the driver on a mobile device. It was much easier to connect through the computer because it was immediately identifiable and detected by the computer system and allowed for simple testing between the amp's 1/4" jack and computer's 3.5mm connection. This is great for experiencing the difference in quality with and without. Ultimately, listening is a subjective experience and a matter of preference. If you're looking for ease of use, affordability, and improvement in sound quality, this item is definitely a good fit.
