Ozuchi: The Japanese Village with a Population of 1
Deep in the mountains of Ishikawa Prefecture lies Ozuchi, a village that once thrived with life but eventually became a "ghost town." Today, it is home to just one man who returned to restore the land and preserve the history of his ancestors. In this video, we explore the quiet beauty of Ozuchi’s terraced rice fields and the incredible resilience of its sole resident. But he isn't entirely alone—thanks to the power of international volunteering, young people from around the world are helping to breathe new life into this "one-man village." 🏠 WANT TO VOLUNTEER IN OZUCHI? You can join a workcamp to help maintain the traditional houses, restore forest paths, and support local agriculture. These projects are organized by NICE Japan in partnership with SCI (Service Civil International). How to Apply: Visit the SCI International database to find upcoming projects in Ozuchi: 👉 https://sci.ngo/volunteer/ Local Partner: Learn more about the work being done by NICE (Never-ending International workCamps Exchange): 👉 https://www.nice1.gr.jp/en/ What volunteers do: Maintenance of the historic terraced rice fields.
