City of Houston Garbage Truck Compilation: Rainy Sunday Trash Collection!

Last January, Texas was hit with a major winter storm that left snow and ice on the ground for days. Since cities like Houston rarely experienced weather like that, all companies and municipalities took precaution and delayed trash collection. With MLK day already pushing the city’s schedule back either way, and the storm happening on Tuesday/Wednesday, Houston’s SWM department ended up cramming 3 collection days into the weekend. Tuesday pickup was moved to Friday, Thursday to Saturday, and Friday?…to Sunday! For such a rare circumstance, Andrew and Ben joined me to hunt down every truck we could find. Despite heavy rainfall that entire day, we managed to catch several trucks (while getting completely soaked). At one point it was so bad that rear load crews were called back to the yard while ASLs had to pause their routes for a moment. Originally we were trying to get the newest units on video, but looking back I’m super glad we caught some the older AutoReachs and Pythons that probably aren’t running now. The green python actually sprung a hydraulic leak so that was another drawback from that day. Big thanks to all the hardworking drivers for pulling through during such a hectic week!
