Cardiopatia ischemică: diagnostic și tratament

Dr. Călin Popa, chief physician of cardiovascular surgery, explains the diagnosis and treatment of ischemic heart disease. Ischemic heart disease is one of the most common diseases and, undoubtedly, the most common heart disease. Myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, coronary artery disease, coronary syndrome are, in some ways, synonymous with ischemic heart disease and have in common the fact that one or more arteries of the heart are “clogged” or about to become clogged. The frequency of this disease is impressive: worldwide it is the first cause of mortality, and in Europe 1.8 million people die from ischemic heart disease per year, i.e. 20% of all deaths. Dr. Călin Popa, chief physician of cardiovascular surgery, explained in detail how ischemic heart disease is diagnosed and what the treatment is. Ischemic heart disease: what is it Ischemic heart disease is a disease that involves the clogging of the vessels that transport oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle. As we know, the heart muscle works in unison and needs a significant amount of oxygen, nutrients, and energy. When it is no longer supplied with the necessary substances, its contraction force weakens or if the blood flow brought by an artery is obstructed, the territory that was irrigated with that blood dies. This is how myocardial infarction occurs. Ischemic heart disease: symptoms The symptoms of a heart attack are very diverse, but the most common is that the patient feels a strong pain in the chest, a precordial pain, an impressive pain that the patient feels like a claw, like a pressure, accompanied by a sensation of sudden death. This pain can radiate either to the left hand or to the jaw. Dr. Călin Popa recommends that in such cases when people feel such pain, they should definitely consult a doctor. Because there is a fine line between a less alarming symptom that only resembles that of ischemic cardiopathy and an alarming, impressive symptom, the one characteristic of this disease. The cardiologist can differentiate these two types of sensations by asking questions like: how long does it last, when does the pain appear, if it has given in to any medication, to which medication. Then, for a correct diagnosis, it is completed with specialized analyzes.
