Türkay Killed, Şükrü Handled It Umut Altaş, the fugitive suspect in the Gülistan Doku murder case, wanted on a red notice, spoke for the first time about what happened. Umut Altaş, a key figure in the Gülistan Doku investigation, stated that Türkay Sonel confessed to the murder, saying, "She was screaming a lot, so I shot her." Altaş claimed that the body was disposed of by Şükrü, the bodyguard of former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel. Umut Altaş, one of the most important figures who could unravel the mystery in the Gülistan Doku investigation and a long-sought fugitive suspect, was found by AKŞAM newspaper living on the streets of New York City. In a hotel there, Altaş recounted the background of the Gülistan Doku case. Umut Altaş gave statements to AKŞAM's Washington representative, Yavuz Atalay. 'SHE WAS SCREAMING A LOT, SO I SHOT HER' Altaş said that Türkay Sonel confessed the murder to him personally at the governor's residence. Altaş stated, "I was naive back then. Türkay even left me a note admitting to committing the murder. At the residence, he told me, 'She was screaming so much, so I shot her.' I even touched the murder weapon while we were in the car. I want this case to be solved now." Altaş, who said he suffered trauma after this confession, added, "I lost my memory, I lost touch with life. I became like someone with Alzheimer's, I went into shock. I'm only now starting to remember what happened." 'ŞÜKRÜ HANDLED IT' Altaş also described how the body was disposed of. He recounted that after the murder, Türkay Sonel told him, "Şükrü handled it," and that the person he was referring to was Şükrü, the bodyguard of the former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel. Altaş expressed his predictions about the process with these words: "He killed her on the viaduct, then called the bodyguard, Şükrü. I think they took the body away in a 'Santa Fe' brand car. He was doing everything for that bodyguard anyway, he was the governor's bodyguard... He was the kind of person who would bury someone alive, he has the look of a serial killer on his face." SUSPICIOUS SCENE ON THE VIADUCT Altaş, also clarifying the moments reflected in the PTS (Plate Recognition System) records in the file, where he was seen in the same vehicle as Türkay Sonel, claimed he was unaware of the murder that day: "After the murder, Türkay picked me up in the car. I didn't know anything at the time. We drove around the area where the murder took place, near Tunceli University, where the bridge and stream bed are. He drove around the viaduct a few times, constantly looking at that area. I think he was checking to see if the police had arrived. He must have killed Gülistan there." GARBAGE DUMP AREA TO BE INVESTIGATED Regarding the possible location of Doku's body, Umut Altaş said, "I don't know the exact location of the body, but it could be somewhere around the university, in secluded areas where people don't go, perhaps near Aktuluk neighborhood. They should check the blind spots in that neighborhood where no one ever goes. Also, the garbage dump area next to the water treatment plants in Bayraktepe should definitely be checked." Stating that he had spoken with Türkay Sonel several times by phone while in America, Umut Altaş announced that he would no longer evade the issue and would share everything he knows with the judiciary. Türkay Sonel TÜRKAY SONEL HAS A TENDENCY TOWARDS VIOLENCE Speaking about Türkay Sonel's character, Altaş claimed that Sonel was prone to rape and violence. Altaş said, "Türkay was also with girls under 18; he had a character that would lead to rape. His tendency towards violence was extremely high. He even beat his own sister. He had a girlfriend named Elif, whom he also assaulted." Altaş said, "One day he argued with the police. He walked towards the officers on duty, showed them his gun. Then he pulled out a card from his pocket and showed it, and the police couldn't do anything.
