Many people doubted whether Mexico could live up to the standards of the United States and Canada, but in this first video of the World Cup series, I explored Mexico City starting with its main gateway: Benito Juárez International Airport. In this video, I show you what the Mexico City airport looked like after the renovations for the 2026 World Cup, the new photo opportunities with the World Cup trophy and the giant ball, the route to the Metro from the airport, the Terminal Aérea station on Line 5, how to pay for the Metro in Mexico City, the use of the Integrated Mobility Card, and payment with international contactless cards. I also ride the Mexico City Metro to visit the Auditorio station, recently renovated with new lighting, flooring, signage in Spanish and English, new turnstiles, and Mexican art. I also encounter electric buses, walk along Paseo de la Reforma, see the Diana the Huntress statue, the Angel of Independence, and one of the most modern and green areas of Mexico City. But this video isn't just about infrastructure. I also show why Mexico has something the United States and Canada can't copy: its culture, its food, its people, and its identity. I tried tacos al pastor and tacos de costra at El Califa, strolled down Madero Street, saw the Torre Latinoamericana, walked through the Historic Center, and talked about the Zócalo, where the FIFA Fan Festival will be held for those without World Cup tickets. Mexico is hosting the World Cup again after 40 years, and this time it's doing so alongside the United States and Canada. In this series, I'll show how Mexico City is preparing for the 2026 World Cup: public transportation, the Metro, electric buses, the airport, prices, food, security, tourism, the Zócalo, the Fan Festival, Azteca Stadium/Mexico City Stadium, and everything that will happen off the field.
