Wild Voices: Episode Two: Photography & Storytelling as Advocacy for the More Than Human World

Wild Voices: Art, Advocacy, & Animal Nature is a new webinar series hosted by author, rewilding facilitator, and Project Coyote Artist for Wild Nature Ambassador Vanessa Chakour. The series explores how art and land‑based practice help us remember our own animal nature and speak on behalf of the more‑than‑human world. Each interactive conversation looks at how creative practice becomes a form of ecological relationship — a way to listen more closely and stand for species who cannot advocate for themselves. Through movement, foraging, writing, and visual storytelling, we explore how reconnecting with our bodies and our ecosystems strengthens our capacity to protect the wild. Photography & Storytelling as Advocacy for the More‑Than‑Human World Join naturalist, author, and Project Coyote Artists for Wild Nature Ambassador Vanessa Chakour and wildlife conservation photographer, filmmaker, writer, California naturalist, and Project Coyote Advisory Board & Keeping It Wild Youth Education & Outreach Program Coordinator Sarah Killingsworth for a conversation on using images and language as advocacy. This Wild Voices session explores the power of visual storytelling, the responsibility of ethical wildlife photography and filmmaking, the depth gained from close observation, and how both photos and prose can give voice to the wild. Sarah will share her photography, field stories, and writing on behalf of other species after decades of patient, respectful observation. We’ll explore how creative practice can deepen ecological intimacy, challenge human‑centered narratives, and inspire the protection of ecosystems and the wild lives who share our world. About: Sarah Killingsworth is an award-winning wildlife conservation photographer, filmmaker, and writer who has always loved wildlife and exploring wild places. Passionate about stories of coexistence, especially with native predators, Sarah is inherently curious about the intersection of humans and wildlife habitats, how wildlife adapts to ever-encroaching human development as well as ways we can work to protect species before they become endangered. A certified California Naturalist, Sarah is the President of the Board of the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin and a member of the Emerging League of the International League of Conservation Photographers and the NANPA Ethics Committee. She is also the Program Coordinator for the Keeping It Wild Youth Education and Outreach program with Project Coyote.
