MGM is not a label associated with classical music generally, but here is a fine recording from 70 years ago from MGM. It was the first year MGM made LPs and the sound is comparable to other contemporary recordings by labels like Angel and Westminster. Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1905) wrote some of the most beautiful compositions in the history of classical music. His works always were compellingly melodic with wonderful orchestrations. The Snow Maiden (Snegúrochka) is an opera that was written in 1880-81, and that premiered in 1882. It was reportedly the composer's favorite among his own works. The suite is taken from the opera.
