This time, I did an acoustic cover of “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt. The first time I heard this song was actually through a cover by Bon Iver. He performed it with just piano and vocals, and at first I thought it was his original song. But when I found the original, I remember feeling how grand and deeply lonely it was. “I can’t make you love me” — every time I sing this line, it really tightens something in my chest. There’s such a quiet sadness in it. Lately I’ve been into playing with just an acoustic guitar, so I recorded this along with the sound of ocean waves. Somehow, it ended up feeling a little lighter than I expected, rather than purely sad. How did it feel to you? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Also, just as a quick update — we used to go by The Bagpipes, but we’re now performing under the name Garanbo.
