Mendelssohn – Songs without Words 48 | Complete | Gabriele Tomasello, piano
Mendelssohn – Songs without Words 48 | Complete | Gabriele Tomasello, piano Felix Mendelssohn’s Songs without Words (Lieder ohne Worte) represent one of the most poetic and intimate piano cycles of the Romantic era.Written between 1829 and 1845, these 48 short piano pieces are grouped into eight books and explore a wide expressive range, from lyrical cantabile writing to delicate character pieces and virtuoso miniatures. Conceived as “songs” without sung text, these works rely entirely on the piano’s singing ability, clarity of texture, and subtle harmonic language. Mendelssohn combines classical balance with Romantic lyricism, creating music that is at once refined, personal, and deeply expressive. The interpretations presented in this complete video were originally recorded and published on this channel in eight separate videos, each dedicated to one opus of the Songs without Words. This unified presentation brings together the entire cycle, offering a continuous listening experience that highlights both the individuality of each miniature and the structural coherence of the whole collection. Particular attention is given to melodic shaping, voicing, articulation, and formal clarity, in order to preserve the vocal character and poetic intimacy that define these works. This video is part of an ongoing project dedicated to complete piano cycles and structurally demanding repertoire, ranging from Romanticism to modern and contemporary music. 🎹 Felix Mendelssohn – Songs without Words (Lieder ohne Worte), completePiano: physically modeled Bösendorfer – (Pianoteq) Performed by Gabriele Tomasello📄 with score Felix Mendelssohn – Songs without Words (48) Op. 19b (1830–1832) No. 1 in E major – Andante con moto 0:00 No. 2 in A minor – Andante espressivo 3:13 No. 3 in A major – Molto allegro e vivace 5:28 No. 4 in A major – Moderato 7:35 No. 5 in F♯ minor – Piano agitato 9:59 No. 6 in G minor – Andante sostenuto (Venetian Gondola Song) 13:12 Op. 30 (1834–1835) No. 7 in E♭ major – Andante 15:16 No. 8 in B♭ minor – Allegro di molto 19:27 No. 9 in E major – Adagio non troppo 21:23 No. 10 in B minor – Presto agitato 23:34 No. 11 in D major – Andante sostenuto 26:21 No. 12 in F♯ minor – Allegretto tranquillo 28:05 Op. 38 (1836–1837) No. 13 in E♭ major – Andante con moto 31:36 No. 14 in C minor – Allegro non troppo 33:55 No. 15 in E major – Presto e molto vivace 35:51 No. 16 in A major – Andante 38:15 No. 17 in A minor – Agitato 40:35 No. 18 in A♭ major – Duetto – Andante con moto 42:50 Op. 53 (1839–1841) No. 19 in A♭ major – Andante con moto 45:50 No. 20 in E♭ major – Allegro non troppo 48:58 No. 21 in G minor – Presto agitato 51:45 No. 22 in F major – Adagio 54:21 No. 23 in A minor – Allegro con fuoco 57:04 No. 24 in F♯ minor – Molto allegro, vivace 59:47 Op. 62 (1842–1844) No. 25 in G major – Andante espressivo 1:02:20 No. 26 in B Flat major – Allegro con fuoco 1:04:42 No. 27 in E minor – Andante maestoso 1:06:37 No. 28 in G Major – Allegro con anima 1:09:28 No. 29 in A minor – Andante con moto 1:11:08 No. 30 in A major – Allegretto grazioso 1:13:48 Op. 67 (1843–1845) No. 31 in E♭ major – Andante 1:16:04 No. 32 in F♯ minor – Allegro leggiero 1:18:34 No. 33 in B Flat major – Andante tranquillo 1:20:34 No. 34 in C Major – Presto 1:23:02 No. 35 in D Major – Moderato 1:24:53 No. 36 in E major – Allegretto non troppo 1:27:09 Op. 85 (1845) No. 37 in F major – Andante espressivo 1:29:08 No. 38 in A minor – Allegro agitato 1:31:26 No. 39 in E flat major – Presto 1:32:21 No. 40 in D major – Andante sostenuto 1:34:43 No. 41 in A major – Allegretto 1:37:01 No. 42 in A minor – Allegro con moto - sempre cantabile 1:39:16 Op. 102 (1845–1847) No. 43 in E minor – Andante, un poco agitato 1:41:07 No. 44 in D major – Adagio 1:44:03 No. 45 in C major – Presto 1:46:48 No. 46 in G minor – Un poco agitato, ma andante 1:48:05 No. 47 in A major – Allegro vivace 1:50:35 No. 48 in C major – Andante 1:51:45
