Orquídeas silvestres - Ophrys riojana

Today I present to you a small wild orchid, the Ophrys riojana, which grows in northern Spain, mainly in the Rioja Alta region. I find it in Briones and Haro, along with several other orchids. In the video, I share many specimens from different years so you can see the subtle differences between them. Wild orchids are a gift from nature that we must protect; it depends on us whether future generations can continue to see them. Description: It is a perennial herbaceous plant. In the areas I visit, they are small, about 20 cm tall, with lanceolate, narrow, unspotted, green leaves. The inflorescence is loose, with 4 to 10 flowers. The bracts are green and slightly longer than the ovary. Sepals green to yellowish-green, ovate-oblong, the lateral ones wider than the central one. Lateral petals green to ochre or reddish, lanceolate to triangular with wavy edges. Labellum nearly round or suborbicular, usually without gibbosities and with little hair, brown to reddish with a yellow to greenish band at the margin. Basal field small, slightly lighter than the labellum, delimited by a white stripe. It has blackish ocelli surrounded by green. Bright spots with complex shapes, as seen in the video, reddish-blue in color with a white border. Habitat: Grows in uncultivated areas where thyme and other orchids such as O. passionis, O. sphegodes, and O. speculum grow. Main pollinator: Pollinators of the genus Andrena. Season: April, May Location: La Rioja Alta (Haro and Briones) Today I present to you a small wild orchid, the Ophrys riojana, which grows in northern Spain, mainly in the Rioja Alta region.
