The Siege of Carrick - Noel Tuohy Céilí Band, 1965
A television studio becomes a dance hall for the programme Club Céilí. ‘Club Céilí’ was first broadcast in 1964. The programme attempted to put a ceili dance on television. Early episodes were recorded in hotel ballrooms by an outside broadcast unit. In the this extract presenter Seán Duignan introduces the programme and announces the dance as the ‘Siege of Carrick’ The extract shown here is from a ‘Club Céilí’ recorded in the RTÉ television studios and was broadcast 16 May 1965.
