Aging Out of Foster Care | One to One

In the United States more than 23,000 young people age out of foster care each year, about 1,000 of them in New York City alone. They enter adulthood with few of the safety nets that other young people may take for granted, and may possess few of the skills required to successfully navigate life on their own. Host Sheryl McCarthy sits down with: Saroya Friedman-Gonzalez, Executive Director of New Yorkers for Children, a nonprofit that supports young people who have aged out of foster care, and; Demetrius Napolitano who spent 22 years in New York City’s foster care system, graduated from New York University and is a motivational speaker, writer and meditation and yoga instructor. We’ll discuss what’s being done to help these young people achieve successful outcomes, and what more needs to be done.
