On March 5, 1896, Guglielmo Marconi filed a provisional patent for the radio, and on February 12, 1931, Vatican Radio was inaugurated. However, a doubt persisted in my mind: how had Marconi managed to build the radio having only obtained an elementary school diploma? Were there other helpers besides the well-known names? I entered the Vatican Apostolic Archives (formerly “Secret”) with the intention of answering these questions. I did not find the answers, but I found something else: there is a file dedicated to the so-called “Death Ray” and the story is very different from what we know.
