Presented by Julie Thompson-Slacum, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Chesapeake Bay Field Office Division-Chief Date/Time: Friday, June 26 @ 8:30PM EDT Fireflies, or lightning bugs, are neither flies nor bugs. They are actually in the beetle family and are beginning to appear in local fields and forests. The light they emit is a biochemical reaction that can vary from green to yellow to red. This talk will focus on the fascinating biology of fireflies, their threats, and what we can do to help them persist. We are excited to offer this program both online and in-person. For those that can visit us on-site, doors open at 8:00pm and the program begins at 8:30pm. If the skies are clear, our domes will be open for you to view the night skies through Kopernik’s telescopes both before and after the program. Subscribe for future programs and observing sessions!
