Chevrolet Corvette C6 R GT2 2010: Pure Sound 4K Video

Corvette at Le Mans 2010: 15 years later 2025 marks 65 years of Corvette's first participation at the 24 hours of Le Mans; the world's most prestigious sports car race. The Iconic Chevy engine first boomed around circuit de la Sarthe back in 1965 and made its return for 2025 with the C8R GT3, although today's post is focused on the recent past; 2010 to be precise. The Chevrolet Corvette C6r ZR1 GT2 made it's first apprentice during the second half of the 2009 ALMS season with some promising signs of living up to the previous C5's dominant recent history. After completing in the final 5 rounds of the ALMS championship that year, both chassis received many tweaks and changes in preparation for the following year, most notably regarding the aerodynamics and bodywork. 2010 would feature the new GT2 class for the 24 hours of Le Mans, which the brand new C6r would make it's inaugural appearance in. Alongside the General Motor's backed programme would be the likes of Ferrari, Aston Martin, BMW and Porsche contesting the class win, with some Hugely experienced teams housing the variety of represented brands. After making an underwhelming GT2 Debut at the 12 hours of Sebring with an 8th and 9th finish respectfully, both Pratt Miller Corvettes scored respectable results including a handful of podiums before crossing the pond to tackle Le Mans in June; becoming the first time Chevrolet would complete outside of the GTS/GT1 class. Both cars would have a stacked driver lineup, with recognisable names such as Oliver Beretta, Emmanuel Collard, Oliver Gavin and Johnny O'Connell, who all had previous 24 hour endurance racing experience. If the roaring Chevrolet V8 engine didn't turn enough heads during the weekend, both the #63 and #64 GM Corvette's wore a unique new livery featuring, the traditional Yellow with silver and black detailing. During Friday's qualifying the Chevy's were looking like the car to beat in the LM GT2 class, with #64 setting the fastest time with the sister car joining it on the second row of the grid. Both cars led their class through the day, evening and night, giving the team hope that they would win on debut in the GT2 class However, The factory backed team was about to find out how quickly things can change in endurance racing. Within 30 laps both cars would retire with an engine failure after clocking over 230 laps respectively; making this the first time the team would have both cars fail to finish the full 24 hours. This would also mark the first and last Le Mans for both chassis from 2010, as Corvette racing would build new cars for the following year's race with more tweaks and improvements, while the older chassis sold on to privateer teams. During the remainder of the ALMS season, both cars would continue to score podiums and a win at Petit Le Mans, proving that the C6 is a solid base for a competent race winner. Over the last year I've been fortunate enough to see (and hear) both cars at Donington, and it's safe to say despite their lack of impressive results when compared to the previous Corvette, the C6r GT2 is a turning point in Chevy's Le Mans Journey.
