BBC Radio 1 & 2 - David Hamilton - early Sep 1977

DJ "Diddy" David Hamilton ruled the airwaves in the mid 1970's with his Radio 1 afternoon show which was also simulcast on the Radio 2 transmitter network. He would often start his show a little differently and today is no exception as you can hear when newsreader Sheila Tracey comes to the end of the 2 o'clock bulletin. It's early September 1977, Elvis is number 1 with "Way Down" (following his death the previous month) and the show is packed full of chart hits, new releases and, of course, the "Tea-break" at 3 o'clock - a medley of hits by a single artist chosen by a listener. By the end of the year the BBC had a bit more money in the bank to invest in afternoon programming, moving Tony Blackburn to a new afternoon slot on Radio 1, while David Hamilton switched over to Radio 2.
