This is a real-time livestream of the Hōryū Tanabata Kiriko Festival, a traditional summer celebration held in Hōryū, Suzu City, Ishikawa, Japan. With a history of over 500 years, the festival is rooted in ancestral welcome rituals associated with the Tanabata season of the lunar calendar. Enormous Kiriko lanterns—about 14 meters tall and 2 tons in weight—are carried by over 100 people. In the climax, the glowing floats enter the sea, surrounded by torches, fireworks, and the rhythm of drums and flutes, creating a breathtaking spectacle. This year’s celebration carries special meaning, as the region continues its recovery from the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
