Derrida Lecture Deconstruction and Hauntology
In this Derrida lecture I overview the concepts of Deconstruction and Hauntology. Derrida's concept of Deconstruction is very elusive and tricky to explain - Derrida struggles to articulate simply what Deconstruction is due to the slippery nature of the concept. The lecture, aimed at level 3 students, attempts to simplify and clarify the concept and its impact on philosophy. In the Derrida Lecture I discuss: 3:07 Semiotics through Saussure and Pierce 10:38 Roland Barthes Death of the Author 15:28 Heidegger Being and Time and Deconstruction 19:42 Derrida and Differance 26:25 Derrida Huantology All in 30 minutes(ish)! Do you agree with Derrida? Is language unstable? Is Deconstruction even useful? Are we haunted by figures of the past? Let me know what you think in the comments!
