Episode 1253 Annie (Doris Speed) asks Alf (Bryan Mosley) who he’s chosen as his mayoress. Elsie (Pat Phoenix) visits Len (Peter Adamson) and tells him not to dwell on losing. Jerry (Graham Haberfield) tries to speak to Rita (Barbara Knox) about Len. Len worries that Rita will think he’s only showing interest now that he’s missed out on being mayor. Elsie talks to Rita on his behalf, but Rita confesses she’s afraid of being hurt again. Annie subtly hints to Alf that her skills would make her the perfect mayoress. Elsie is furious to find Alan (Alan Browning) passed out drunk once again. As they argue, Alan gives her a smack, but Elsie wallops him right back. The next morning, Len checks in on Elsie and tells her that she and Alan will work things out. Maggie (Irene Sutcliffe) doesn’t believe Alan is an alcoholic and offers to talk to him. Len tells Jerry that he lost because he’d missed council meetings. Alan apologises to Elsie, and she agrees to give him another chance. Annie misinterprets a bouquet Alf sends her as him asking her to be his mayoress.
