◼︎ An unexpected record remains in the 13th-century ancient document "Goryeocheopjangbulsimjojo," discovered at the University of Tokyo, stating that Goryeo relocated its capital to Jindo. This proves the existence of another Goryeo government established by the Sambyeolcho, an elite anti-Mongol group that opposed the Goryeo dynasty's decision to surrender to the Mongols and return to Gaegyeong in 1270, by enthroning Prince Seunghwa On as the new king. Settling on Jindo, the Sambyeolcho government constructed the massive Yongjangsanseong Fortress, which closely resembled the Goryeo palace, in just nine months. By burning slave documents, they aspired to establish an independent, people-centered state that transcended social class. Based on their formidable naval power, they seized control of the seas extending from the southern coast to Jeju Island, reigning as a maritime kingdom.
