Kangpokpi bids final farewell to Air India crash victim Lamnunthem Singson

The mortal remains of Lamnunthem Singson, fondly known as Neonu, was brought to Kangpokpi in Manipur late on June 19 evening to a solemn and respectful reception. Singson was among the victims of the recent Air India plane crash . Her body was brought to her hometown at around 9:20 p.m., where thousands of residents had gathered to pay their respects. The Kangpokpi Town Committee (KTC) organised a candlelight vigil and human chain along National Highway-2, stretching from downtown Kangpokpi (IT Road) to her residence in Ngambom Veng. People of all ages lined the route, holding candles in silence to honour her life and service. The quiet gathering was marked by unity and deep sorrow. At her home, members of the Sadar Hills units of Kuki Inpi and the Kuki Women Union received the body with a short prayer and the traditional shawl ceremony. Local organisations—the KTC, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation (KWWO), and Kangpokpi Youth Union (KYU)—also offered floral tributes and condolence messages as part of the farewell while her grieving mother sat beside the coffin. Neonu’s uncle, Kaipu Kipgen, spoke on behalf of the family, expressing gratitude to all who supported them during this difficult time. He thanked the people of Nagaland, the Naga and Kuki communities, the Nagaland Police, and the Eimi Riders Nagaland for their assistance from Dimapur Airport. He also acknowledged the Naga People’s Organisation and the people of Senapati for their support along the way. An overnight condolence service was held, led by the Thadou Baptist Association (TBA) Kangpokpi and the Ngambom Veng Ward No. 8 Committee.
