IP66, IP67, IPx7, IP68 - Ingress protection of dust, water and testing of electrical equipment

We find out about the test procedures for ingress protection of electrical equipment and enclosures. Particularly the higher IP ratings associated with industrial equipment used in wet and dusty environments - IP66, IP67, IP6X, IPX5, IPX7 IP68 Check out our do's and don'ts of IP rated enclosures http://www.efixx.co.uk/Articles/know-... If you see an X in the IP rating e.g IPx7 it means the manufacturer is not specifying protection from ingress of objects. It would be reasonable to assume that an object certified as IPX7 would also not allow any dusty to enter. However, You'll find on youtube lots of videos about IPX7 Bluetooth headphones. Would dust stop an IPX7 from working properly with regards to sound performance? We look at the tests for water ingress and the separate test for ingress of dust. IP Testing (IEC 60529): EN60529 is an international standard designed to give products a determined International Protection Marking according to the IP Code (Index of protection) rating. This standard tests the sealing effectiveness of enclosures of electrical equipment against the intrusion of solid particles and liquid.
