Although a tense atmosphere was already expected during the final debate on the Amnesty Law between the pro- and anti-Amnesty parties in the Congress of Deputies, the tone escalated and turned into a brawl after Vox leader Santiago Abascal's intervention in the chamber, which ended with shouts and insults from the Vox bench. The leader of the far-right party addressed Gerardo Pisarello, a member of the En Comú Podem party, accusing him of "wanting Spain to do badly" and of "hating the Spanish flag." In response to these statements, and according to the Commons member, after hearing "sudaca" from the Vox bench, Pisarello asked to speak "because of personal allusions," which sparked the first outcries from the far right. During his one-minute response, Pisarello defended himself as the "grandson of Andalusian republicans" and asserted that "we don't accept any lessons from those who have always lived off the hype and who are part of historically Islamophobic and anti-Semitic organizations."
