Understanding Stress Transformation and Mohr's Circle
In this video, we're going to take a look at stress transformation and Mohr’s circle. Stress transformation is a way of determining the normal and shear stress components acting at a specific location within a body, as we rotate the coordinate system we are using to observe the stresses. And Mohr's circle is a very simple but powerful technique we can use to represent stress transformation graphically. We can use Mohr's circle to easily determine the principal stresses, the angle of rotation to the principal planes, and the maximum shear stress. The principal stresses occur where the stress element is oriented such that the shear stresses are zero. For plane stress conditions there are two principal stresses, which are the maximum and minimum normal stresses. --- The Efficient Engineer is a channel aimed at mechanical and civil engineers.
