Sarah Niemand and the Women of Buffelsjagsbaai
The fishing community of Buffeljagsbaai in the Western Cape’s Overstrand region is plagued by ‘land grabbing’ from private abalone aquaculture farms. They live a feeble hand-to-mouth existence instead of reaping the benefits from the high-value abalone resources on their doorstep. The Overstrand Municipality wants the Buffeljagsbaai community to relocate from the homes to RDP houses 18 kilometres away from the natural resources that define their lives and livelihoods. This documentary shows how the #BlueGrowthEconomy negatively impacts and exploits this community. This documentary was produced by PescaDOLUS (https://www.pescadolus.org).
