Chinese FM Transmitter

#GeorgeChristofi #GeorgesWorkbench Chinese FM Transmitter Another random purchase from China. I thought about building a broadcast FM band transmitter to test radios but a quick scan of Aliexpress showed up this beast. Allegedly a 5 watt stereo transmitter, I ran this up on the Marconi 2955 test set and it showed 3 watts at 12v. I was amazed at the very low input needed to drive this box so it could run off a very cheap mp3 player with minimal current consumption. Easily long enough for the authorities to respond to a complaint and locate the transmitter. Talking legalities, It will not meet ANY legal conditions in the UK, even for licenced broadcast stations. I really can't put it onto an external antenna of any sort without risking prosecution... I believe the same would apply in most of if not all of Europe. The cost of the unit was less than 15 Pounds and it was ready assembled. Cheaper than me spending time building one along with the components cost even using scrap parts. It's tiny... really tiny. 4" (10cm) x 2.5" (65mm) x 3/4" (18mm). There is no weight to it and it makes it very portable indeed. If anyone is thinking of buying one for setting up a pirate radio station, it is NOT waterproof, so hide it in a plastic bag. (Disclaimer: I of course do not support illegal radio stations, the music is usually rubbish) End conclusion... Fun little item, fairly well built (see video) and it works.
