Sociology emerged as a science in France in the mid-19th century. It was initially called "social physics", later receiving the name Sociology. Sociology seeks to overcome the common-sense view, which is often laden with assumptions and prejudices. Sociology shows us that an opinion is different from a critical analysis. While the former is limited to a commentary based on one's own experience, the latter is anchored in research and scientific knowledge on a given subject. We all have the right to have opinions on any subject, but believing that our opinions can serve as a basis for analyzing society and pointing to paths for its development is a mistaken and dangerous thought that sociology seeks to combat. Sociology is a science as important as chemistry, history, biology, and mathematics. Its study, at all levels of primary education, is fundamental to the development of human beings as critical citizens living in society. Questions?
