SPELLING refers to the correct way to write words. GRAMMAR refers to the set of rules for speaking and writing correctly in a given language. These are the main topics: ✓ Checking grammar and spelling ✓ Automatic corrections in Word ✓ Looking up synonyms and antonyms in the Thesaurus ✓ Word and character counts in a document 📌 SPELLING AND GRAMMAR CHECKING In Word, you can check spelling in two ways: ▪ By directly addressing the "incorrect" word while you're writing. Simply right-click the highlighted word and choose the correct term from those suggested in the shortcut menu. If the word highlighted as an error is "corrected," to stop it from being marked as "incorrect" in the active document, you can click Ignore All or Add to Dictionary. ▪ After completing your writing, you can use the appropriate pane. To activate it, on the Review tab, in the Proofing group, click the Editor command, or press the F7 key. 📌 AUTO-CORRECT The auto-correct feature automatically corrects common typos and spelling errors as you type. For example, it automatically corrects "pò" to "po'," "ciliege" to "ciliegie," and the lowercase letter after a period to capitalize. ☞ Watch the tutorial to learn how to add more terms to be automatically corrected ;) 📌 LOOKING UP FOR WORDS IN THE THESAURUS With the #thesaurus, you can look up synonyms (different words with the same meaning) and antonyms (words with opposite meanings). You need to: 1) Click the word in the document you want to look up. 2) Click Thesaurus on the Review tab. 3) To replace the selected word with one of the words from the list, select it, click the down arrow, and then click Insert. 📌 WORD COUNT A useful tool for writing documents that require length constraints is Word Count, available in the Review tab. Clicking the button displays a window showing the number of pages, words, characters, paragraphs, and lines in the document. Tip: The document's page and word count is also visible in the status bar. If you don't see this information, watch the tutorial ;) Enjoy! 🧰 Francesca Martorana, Eng.
