We venture into the Tucurere wetlands, in eastern Falcón state, part of the Cuare Reserve. El Cerrito, a natural paradise, faces a silent death sentence: the freshwater that once sustained it is turning salty. Located near the town of San Juan de los Callos, about 10 km from the paved road that runs close to the coast, the dock is reached via a dirt road passable only during the dry season.
