Katy Papineau - In The Studio
Katy Papineau SHARES INSIGHTS into her figurative practice, which spans drawing, painting, and printmaking. Her work explores the malleability of memory and the ambiguity of human relationships, drawing on everyday observations that later transform into layered, symbolic narratives on canvas. In this interview, Katy talks about how drawing in public spaces shapes her practice, and how those fleeting sketches merge with her own history, imagination, and inner life back in the studio. She discusses her approach to colour, not just as a visual tool, but as a way of expressing sound, scent, and emotion and how her works capture the complexity of memory and experience. We also explore her path from completing The Drawing Year at the Royal Drawing School, residencies in France and Italy, and her teaching career. Watch, enjoy, and don’t forget to leave your comments!
