If they share 90 percent of my lifestyle and values,​ then there is nothing especially inspiring about them.​ Instead of making me want to become more like them,​ it looks very much as if they want to become more like me.”​ - Ben Sixsmith, The Sad Irony of Celebrity Pastors. The Spectator, 2020. “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.​ Matthew 5:13 (NIV)​ ⭑ Salt in the ancient world​ Savour – Enhance, Flavour, Enjoy. ​ Preserve - Prevent moral decay.​ Purify - Heal from sin and death. Jesus is saying that as salt is a necessary ingredient for daily life, so we are the necessary ingredient for the good of the earth. ​ ​ “If salt loses its saltiness, how can​ it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” It is impossible for salt to stop being salt. ​It is possible for salt to stop being used. ​ 1. We stay in the shaker.​ We lose our saltiness when we forget​ that the ultimate purpose of this gathering is for the people not in this room. ​ 3. Right Vision, Wrong Mission​ The Seven Spheres of Society​ 1. Family ​ 2. Church ​ 3. Education ​ 4. Media ​ 5. Art​ 6. Business / Economy​ 7. Government / Social Service ​ The way we reach our spheres is not by climbing to their peak, but going so low we become their foundation. ​ Responses To The Word: ​ ​ 1. Are you isolated from community? Take a step to change that. ​ ​ 2. Is your Christian life limited to already Christian circles?​ Who are 2-3 people you can intentionally love and serve. ​ ​ 3. What sphere are you in?
