PM Modi Visits MCG | Lisa Sthalekar Hails India-Australia Sports Partnership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited Australia's iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), accompanied by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. During the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with former Australia women's cricket captain Lisa Sthalekar, as well as prominent Australian rugby players. Our correspondent had an exclusive interaction with Sthalekar on PM Modi's visit to the MCG. Speaking about the visit, Lisa Sthalekar said it is exciting that India and Australia have come together and put in place a roadmap for sports cooperation. She said cricket remains at the core of the relationship between the two countries, but there are many more opportunities beyond the sport. Referring to the Commonwealth Games and the possibility of India hosting the Olympics, she said Australia has valuable experience in organising major sporting events, including at the MCG, and hoped both countries would share knowledge to strengthen each other. She added that it is important that both governments work together and learn from one another. On the growth of women's cricket in India and increasing enthusiasm among girls, Sthalekar said it is great to see the development of the Indian women's team. She said the Women's Premier League, similar to the IPL, has created opportunities for players from tier-two, tier-three, and tier-four cities. She added that these opportunities have enabled players to be financially rewarded and positively transform their lives and those of their families. #PMModi #IndiaAustralia #MCG #Melbourne #SportsDiplomacy #LisaSthalekar #Cricket #WPL #WomenInCricket #AnthonyAlbanese #IndiaAustraliaPartnership #Australia PB-SHABD (Prasar Bharati – Shared Audio-Visuals for Broadcast and Dissemination) is the official news service of India’s Public Broadcaster, Prasar Bharati.
