2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Review | Why The "Cross" Is The Best Corolla Ever Built

The Corolla name has been around for decades and it's largely followed the same formula: Design a sedan, then use the basic building blocks to cook up a hatchback, a wagon (that the USA will never get since we hate wagons apparently), and on occasion, a 2-door coupe. But since this is the 21st century and we love all things SUV... this time we got a Corolla Cross. At first glance, the Cross doesn't look too special. It kind of looks like a RAV4 Shirinky Dink and the interior looks like a 110% scale of a regular Corolla, but there's more than that going on because Toyota stuffs a 196 HP hybrid system under the hood. Yep, one of only two AWD hybrids in the subcompact segment (the other is oddly a Toyota hybrid system with a Subaru engine in the Crosstrek), the Corolla Cross shines as a powerful ane efficient option. With more power and better performance than all but a handful of options, and the best AWD economy in the segment, the only real question left is: why does the boring gas model exist?
