Hiking Along Grantham Canal – Grantham to Hickling

Come explore the canal banks along the gloriously beautiful and nature-rich Grantham Canal on a long hike with me. It’s sunny, the countryside is stunning, and this is a great way to explore this beautiful part of the world from the comfort of your chair. On a sunny late May bank holiday weekend there was nothing I would rather be doing than heading out from the south-western edge of Grantham in Lincolnshire, and heading along a scenic canal-side route. Along the way, I meet up with copious waterfowl (especially swans, ducks and a few geese), enjoy the verdant foliage all around and especially the trees laden with blossom. The route may start off in Lincolnshire – but rejoice – it passes into Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire along the way too, before it ends up in charming Hickling, Nottinghamshire for a well-earned stop. Illustrated with lots of maps and route details, recreating the walk yourself couldn't be easier. Plus, throughout the hike video, I’ll be chipping in with various spur of the moment thoughts, along with after-walk captions and reflections on the trekking experience - in Walking with Llama Paws: Episode 09 If you want to recreate the walk - here's the start and endpoints from What3Words Start: ///twins.tracks.crest (Grantham) Finish: ///flocking.riot.snow (Hickling) Timecodes 0:00 - Intro & map 1:08 - Grantham 4:33 - Unused wharf 7:04 - Woolsthorpe locks 9:46 - Belvoir Castle 14:49 - Nesting swans 16:06 - Blossom aplenty 20:50 - Subscriber reminder 22:20 - Hickling approach 23:07 - Destination 23:40 - Outro
