'Kutch to Khajuraho Backpacking' - Bhavnagar - Palitana Climbing Shatrunjaya Hill

The sacred town of Palitana is renowned for its remarkable climb of approximately 3,800 stone steps leading up Shatrunjaya Hill, one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in Jainism. We began the ascent early in the morning, steadily climbing toward the magnificent cluster of temples that crown the hilltop. The temples showcase exquisite marble architecture, domes, spires, and detailed sculptures reflecting centuries of devotion and craftsmanship. The entire hill is considered sacred, and it is believed that every Jain should undertake this climb at least once in their lifetime. For those unable to climb the 3,800 steps on foot at Palitana, palanquin (doli) services are available, where trained carriers carefully carry pilgrims up Shatrunjaya Hill. Additionally, one-to-one support helpers can accompany climbers on foot, offering steady physical assistance and back support throughout the ascent to ensure a safer and more comfortable journey. Despite the physical effort required, the peaceful ambiance and devotional chants make the ascent spiritually uplifting.
