Easy Mushroom Growing: Liquid Culture for Mushroom Cultivation. Testing Honey and Corn Syrup Recipes
• Easy Home Mushroom Growing In this video I'm testing both Honey and Corn Syrup & Light Malt Extract liquid cultures. I have prepared 3 cultures of each with varying nutritional content contained therein. The recipes are as follows: Honey 2% 6grams Honey 294grams Water Honey 4% 12grams Honey 288grams Water Honey 8% 24grams Honey 276grams Water CS⬆️ 300grams Water 1.2grams Light Malt Extract 19.8grams Light Corn Syrup CS↔️ 300grams Water 0.6grams Light Malt Extract 9.9grams Light Corn Syrup CS⬇️ 300grams Water 0.3grams Light Malt Extract 4.53grams Light Corn Syrup Method: 1) Measure and mix in nutrition to the water (use warm water to aid dissolution) 2) Place a marble (or magnetic stir bar) into the solution (used to stir and break up mycelial clumps) 3) Place your lid (with injection port and .22micron filter) on the jar and close tightly. 4) Sterilise inside of a pressure cooker for 15 minutes. Any less and you run the risk of the water not sterilising correctly, any more and you will caramelise the sugars in the honey 5) Inoculate with 2ccs of live culture or spore solution of your choice. 6) Keep in a reasonably warm area during colonisation. This can take up to 4 weeks or until the water turns from an amber colour to clear. 7) Store in a refridgerator until ready for use. Please note! While I've tried to control as many aspects of this experiment, there are numerous flaws in my methodology and as such, this should be considered a 'low resolution experiment'. The biomass contained in the 2ccs of inoculum for each jar wasn't weighed. The biomass at the end of the experiment wasn't weighed and compared. The temperature during colonisation wasn't stable and fluctuated by about 5 or 6 degrees Celsius throughout the day. The sample size for each culture was also woefully insufficient. In the future, I'd like to control for these variables and dramatically increase the sample size to get more reliable results. Having said that, I can confidently say that the corn syrup recipes are superior, but both the honey and corn syrup will work perfectly fine. It also seems that the old adage 'less is more' applies to liquid culture nutrition. Happy growing! Free Cultivation Supplies Checklist https://buymeacoffee.com/bigmush9000/...
