Dream Theater "Metropolis Part I" | Mike Portnoy Drum Cover | 9-Year-Old Maxwell Locke

This is my full drum cover of Dream Theater's "Metropolis Part I: The Miracle and the Sleeper" from the classic album Images and Words, originally performed by Mike Portnoy. This has been my biggest musical challenge yet! Ever since I discovered progressive rock and progressive metal, I've dreamed of learning this incredible song. Mike Portnoy's drumming on Metropolis is packed with technical fills, odd time signatures, dynamic changes, orchestral percussion, and unforgettable grooves. I spent countless hours practicing every section and did my best to stay true to the original while also including a few of Mike's live variations that I thought were really cool. One of my favorite parts of this project was recreating the percussion textures in the original recording—from the sleigh bells and shaker in the intro to the timbale parts, which I performed on my roto-toms 🥁 This project taught me so much, and I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed learning it.
