Bagnoli Remediation Project – Year 1 (2025)

For over a century, Bagnoli was one of the industrial cores of our country. From 1906 to 1992, the steel industry shaped the landscape, economy, and daily lives of thousands of people. Then came silence: the cessation of steel production, environmental contamination, abandonment, and a long wait for redevelopment in an extraordinary coastal area overlooking the sea. Today, that long wait is finally giving way to tangible and concrete transformation. Bagnoli is now at the center of an urban regeneration process that begins with environmental remediation and looks ahead to the future of the city, its people, and the wider territory. The Government’s Extraordinary Commissioner for Bagnoli and Coroglio, and Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, has coordinated strategic vision, institutional commitment, and resources, firmly supporting the renewal of Bagnoli. One year ago, one of the largest and most complex environmental remediation projects in Europe was launched. The project, awarded by Invitalia to Greenthesis, sees the Group acting as lead contractor of a Temporary Consortium of Companies (RTI), deploying industrial expertise and technical know-how to restore value to an area deeply impacted by its industrial history. In 2025, the Municipality of Naples was also awarded the 38th America’s Cup. In Bagnoli, specifically in the Colmata area, the bases of the competing teams will be established, accelerating long-awaited works and activities, also driven by the momentum generated by this major international sailing event.
