#Patara Following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's declaration of 2020 as the Year of Patara, work has begun to relight the 2,000-year-old lighthouse, shaped like a pile of stones, after centuries of operation. A "stone hospital" was established on site to revive the 26-meter-tall lighthouse, commissioned by Roman Emperor Nero as a prestigious monument. The stones, lifted by cranes, are taken to the stone hospital. After being washed with pure water, cracks are reinforced with injection, and broken pieces are bonded with a special mixture. The stones, meticulously processed with a surgeon's care, are removed from the stone hospital to be placed in their original locations. With the removal of these stones from the hospital, the tower begins to rise atop the 6-meter podium.
