Bp Anthony Ling Sermon @ St Alban's feast day

The Right Reverend Anthony Ling,Bishop of the Diocese of Banks and Torres in Vanuatu, preachng at Saint Alban's Church this morning as they commemorate St. Alban's feast day (22 June). Saint Alban is remembered as the first British Christian martyr, executed in Roman Britain around the 3rd–4th century. His story shows courage, hospitality, and faithfulness, as he sheltered a Christian priest, converted to Christianity, and willingly gave his life rather than renounce his new faith. Saint Alban’s life teaches us the importance of hospitality, sacrifice, and steadfast faith. He welcomed a persecuted priest into his home, showing compassion even at personal risk. His willingness to take the priest’s place and face death demonstrates selfless love and loyalty to Christ. From his example, we are urged to stand firm in our beliefs, practice hospitality, and live with courage in the face of trials, trusting that faithfulness to God leaves a lasting witness across generations.
