I Survive on $1.40 a Day in Vietnam — This Is What I Eat
I am a 29-year-old preschool teacher living in Hanoi with an income of approximately $310 USD per month. I live in a small 13m² rented room with limited living conditions. Every day I work from morning until evening, then go to the market to buy fresh food because I don't have a refrigerator. I share my experience shopping at the local market, buying inexpensive but familiar items like eggs, zucchini, pickled cucumbers, and tofu dessert, while also demonstrating careful budgeting due to my low income. After returning to my rented room, I cook a simple meal of traditional Vietnamese dishes for two people, costing only about $1.40 USD. Finally, I share my feelings about my simple, difficult life, yet I persevere and find peace in the home-cooked meals I prepare each day.
