Hidden Meanings Behind the Movie, "Maudie" (Spoilers)

Selected by "Conscious Movie Reviews," "Maudie" is a biopic romance and drama film. When Maud Dowley was forced to live with Aunt Ida, she was miserable under her care for having debilitating rheumatoid arthritis. By taking a job as a live-in housekeeper for Everett, a gruff fish peddler, Maud claimed her independence, using art for greater self-expression by painting outdoor scenes of Nova Scotia throughout his tiny home. As opposites, they grew in attraction to each other and became husband and wife. Requests for her artwork first were made by Susan, a New York journalist, which lead to widespread publicity and growing fame. Maud attracted many admirers of her paintings from far and wide. Her popularity upset Everett. The locals who watched their televised interview saw him as cold and cruel. This upset him for bringing up his emotional woundings, like mistrust, from childhood abandonment as an orphan, that hurt their marriage. Maud Lewis died in 1970.
