Unfinished Business: Pap of Glencoe
After last week’s failed attempt due to brutal Highland weather, I return with determination to finally conquer the iconic Pap of Glencoe. This time, under clearer skies, I drive through the breathtaking Glencoe Mountain Range with the imposing Aonach Eagach Ridge looming above. The scenery alone is enough to stir the soul. Starting from the car park tucked behind Glencoe Village, the route begins gently, winding through fern-lined paths that hint at the wild terrain to come. The gradient quickly steepens, testing legs and lungs, before easing off on a plateau that offers incredible views out towards Loch Linnhe. But the true challenge lies ahead — the final 150m is a steep, scrambly push to the summit of this 742m Fiona. At the top, I'm rewarded with panoramic views along Loch Leven, to the familiar Kinlochleven from the West Highland Way, and the surrounding peaks. This climb is not just about the summit — it’s about persistence, respect for the mountains, and the thrill of unfinished business completed. Join me on this rugged and raw Scottish hike, where nature’s power and beauty come together in one unforgettable adventure. Part of this walk requires hands-on scrambling in order to reach the summit. A knowledge and ability to navigate in the mountains is a must.
