Is the Present Moment Real?

This is a calm, slow journey into the relativity of simultaneity and the strange possibility that your "now" is not the universe's now. What you'll explore, softly and in order: how the finite speed of light means everything you see is already a little bit of a memory, and how humans first measured that speed by watching the moons of Jupiter. We walk through the death of the luminiferous ether and the famous experiment that found no ether wind, then into Einstein's decision, in the year nineteen oh five, to give up absolute time to save the constancy of light. We take his own train-and-lightning thought experiment slowly, watch moving clocks genuinely disagree in flying atomic clocks and in muons raining from the sky, and meet Minkowski's four-dimensional loaf of spacetime. From there we reach the Andromeda puzzle, the protection of cause and effect, and finally the block universe itself, the idea that past, present, and future may all simply exist together. Throughout, we keep an honest line between what is settled, textbook, measured physics and what remains genuinely open. The relativity of simultaneity and time dilation are confirmed beyond doubt. Whether time truly flows, and which interpretation of time is correct, is something physicists still do not agree on, and we sit with that mystery rather than pretending to close it.
