線香職人｜駒村清明堂

"The raw materials and motive power are all the blessings of nature," the fifth generation, Michiharu Komamura says. Ceder leaves that are from trees over 50 years old are carefully pestled to powder, which is powered by a waterwheel. The reason for still using the waterwheel instead of the machine that can mass-produce the powder is to prevent the scent of cedar leaves from flying. This is the only place in Ibaraki prefecture that makes incense sticks using a waterwheel. Many fans are fascinated by its rich scent.
