Eli Eli Psalm 22

Movement I — The Cry and the Anchor (Psalm 22:1–11) Eli, Eli — my God, my God, Why have You forsaken me? Why are You rachok from my crying, Far from the words of my groaning? I cry by day — You do not answer; By night — I find no rest. Yet You are holy, Enthroned on the praises of Israel. In You our fathers trusted; They trusted, and You delivered them. To You they cried and were saved; In You they trusted and were not put to shame. But I am a worm, and not a man — Scorned by all, despised by the people. All who see me mock and scoff; They curl the lip, they shake the head: “He trusted in the LORD — let the LORD save him; Let Him deliver, since He delights in him.” Yet You are He who drew me from the womb, Who taught me trust at my mother’s breast; To You I was cast from the moment of birth — From her womb, You have been my God. Be not rachok — trouble is near, And there is none to help. Psalm 22:1–11; Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34; Hebrews 2:12; Luke 23:35 Movement II — The Suffering, the Plea, and the Turn (Psalm 22:12–21) Many bulls surround me, Strong bulls of Bashan encircle me; They open wide their mouths against me — Ravening and roaring lions. I am poured out like water; All my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax, Melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd; My tongue clings to the roof of my mouth; You lay me in the dust of death. Dogs surround me; A company of evildoers encircles me. They have pierced my hands and feet — I can count every one of my bones. They stare; they gloat over me. They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast their lots. But You, O LORD — be not rachok; O my strength, come quickly to my aid. Deliver my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog. Save me from the mouth of the lion — Anah — You have answered me — from the horns of the wild oxen. Psalm 22:12–21; John 19:23–24; John 19:28–29; Matthew 27:35; Luke 23:36; Hebrews 5:7 Movement III — The Proclamation (Psalm 22:22–31) I will declare Your name to my brothers; In the midst of the congregation I will praise You. You who fear the LORD, praise Him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify Him! Stand in awe of Him, all Israel — For He has not despised the suffering of the afflicted; He has not hidden His face from him. But when he cried, He heard. From You comes my praise in the great assembly; My vows I will pay before those who fear You. The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him shall praise the LORD — May your hearts live forever! All the ends of the earth shall remember And turn to the LORD; All the families of the nations Shall bow down before Him. For dominion belongs to the LORD; He rules over all the nations. All the rich of the earth shall bow; Before Him shall bow all who go to the dust, Even the one who cannot keep himself alive. A seed shall serve Him; The LORD shall be proclaimed to the coming generation. His righteousness shall be told To a people yet unborn — That He has done it.
