Off-road Comparison: Touareg gen 1 & 2, Outlander (wilderness), Passport, Outback, Explorer

A fellow overlander was visiting from the Bay Area, so we rounded up 30 rigs to come out and practice off-road techniques (sorry I couldn't fit everyone in the video). So, in this episode, the focus will be on the "cement shelf climb". I love this obstacle because it's always consistent. It doesn't deteriorate, it doesn't get rutted, it's always the same. I'd love to see the big YouTube channels, that recently purchased LAND, to implement an obstacle like this into their tests. Lets see it ‪@drivingsports‬ and ‪@TFLcar‬ . Big shout out to those channels, Roman and Tommy made the 1st gen Touareg famous and Ryan is the guy that showed me what iVTM4 could do, so I went ahead and bought a Honda Passport. Although this video is an off-road comparison, please don't confuse it with an off-road competition. Too many people get fanboy/fangirl about the car band they drive. Open your mind, and just observe how other vehicles perform. In this episode we see a stock Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 4cylinder with a continuously variable transmission on bald street tires with a $20 spring spacer lift climb up the cement shelf obstacle. In the past, we've tried to get CVT Subarus with aggressive A/T tires up this obstacle with no success. So why is this? Because the Outlander was rocking "Wilderness" gearing, before the "Wilderness" was even a thing. The AWD system in the Outlander is a scaled down version of the legendary AWD system that was in the Evolution 10. The Mitsubishi crossovers simply don't get enough credit, and to be honest, I forgot about them too until I started editing this video. In this episode we will see an overly built 1st gen 4WD Touareg vs. a 2nd gen AWD Touareg. While the original is impressive, don't sleep on the newer model, it has 406 TQ!!
