The Times - ‘I Helped Patrick McGoohan Escape’
Edward Ball explains: for this video, filmed April 1982, the masterful work of director Nick Morris and the kind people at 6 Of 1 brought the visual element the record begged out for. It's wonderful to see this in all its 16mm glory, nearly 40 years later. 6 0f 1 turned over their resources and facilities to Nick. They supplied everything you see in the film and a VHS of episodes recorded in 1977, which is how he could storyboard it so accurately. Also featured were Ray Kent from The Times (broad stripes top and 3D shades), Clive Jackson (from Doctor of the Medics), Paul Kendall (Mute Records, Times producer) and Simon West (thin stripes top, future Hollywood film maker and assistant director here). No. 2 is played by 6 Of 1's heroic stalwart Max Hora. On the record, it's the voice of actor Morgan Sheppard, father of TVPs drummer Mark (who became an actor as well). Interesting note: we used the Teenage Filmstars’ version of ‘I Helped Patrick McGoohan Escape’ for the obviously bad synching, as we hadn't even started recording the Times’ single version!
