¿Se puede aprender HISTORIA en el Cementerio General del Sur?

The General Cemetery of the South is the most impressive cemetery in Venezuela. For decades it was an unsafe place and, sadly, suffered from desecration, but it is now a place where one can visit with peace of mind. Currently, the Libertador Municipality of Caracas, as well as the Ministry of Public Works, are in the process of restoring many of its areas. We are certified tour guides, and almost three years ago we designed a route through the General Cemetery of the South to include it in the guided tours we offer. Despite the aversion many Caracas residents feel toward the necropolis, there are local tourists who are enthusiastic about the opportunity to visit it. The General Cemetery of the South is not only the final resting place of thousands of people, but many of them left behind stories to tell, and we don't want them to be forgotten. Furthermore, there are many funerary monuments to admire, many mausoleums, and many sculptures. On July 5, 2026, the 150th anniversary of this historic cemetery, we wanted to show you what we, as tour guides, think and see each time we visit. In this video, we explore four families through their family trees so that you, our valued viewers, can see how "History" connects. We chose the Boulton, Matos, Mosquera, and Vollmer families, and they, in turn, will lead us into many more surnames, into more DNA. We celebrate the restoration of the General Cemetery of the South; we celebrate that this place, our workplace, will give us a warm welcome; we celebrate those who support our work and join us in person or through our social media; and we celebrate all those who allow us to tell their stories. We celebrate with a resounding "Awesome!" Cheers!
